If you get past the first chapter then you're good to go. The multiple use of same character names are confusing and flashbacks come without warning. But, push through the "retarded" chapter and it starts to fall into place.
i knew it! where are you at in the ole moby dick? people complain about boring chapters in that one but i love it all, even especially the goofy chapters. i'd say that the last 150 pages or so are about the best thing books have to offer.
I haven't read that far yet....I just finished the chapter on "Cetology." So far so good. And I do say, Alas! Melville is no stranger to the exclamation point! Elaine would be proud!

dude i've never even got past the FIRST CHAPTER of the sound and the fury. i cant get to like faulkner very much for some reason.
